Karkadae is the desert hibiscus flower, which blooms when the other plants die. She
represents the defiance and strength in her elegance and her delicate nature. In the work’s dance-like nature, I used a few transformation processes to give it new life in a modal setting. There are some changes in the tempo and expression, to give the work a flowing, flowery quality that is both mysterious yet charming. The melodies used are inspirations from various, non-specific folk themes or gestures.
